CAMERA REPAIR IN ORANGE, CA
A film camera does not have to be completely broken to need repair.
Shutters can become inaccurate. Film advance mechanisms can become stiff or stop working. Light meters may respond without reading correctly. Controls can become inconsistent, and a camera that has spent years sitting unused may have problems that are not obvious until someone tries to put it back into regular service.
Camera Tech provides film camera repair in Orange, California, with all work performed in-house by Mike. Serving photographers since 1978 means older cameras are nothing unusual here. They are evaluated for what they are, what they need, and whether the repair makes sense.
Film cameras can be fully mechanical, electronic, or a combination of both. Age alone does not tell you whether a camera is repairable.
Condition matters. So does wear, previous damage, parts availability, and whether someone has worked on the camera before.
Mike examines the camera in person and determines whether the problem calls for a specific repair, adjustment, calibration, CLA service, or a combination of work.
A shutter that still fires, for example, is not necessarily an accurate shutter. A meter that moves is not necessarily an accurate meter.
The camera has to be evaluated before the answer is clear.
Older cameras often have a history.
Some have been professionally serviced over the years. Some have been worked on at home. Others have been through several owners, so nobody really knows what happened inside before they arrived at Camera Tech.
Previous work does not automatically make a camera unrepairable, but it can affect the job. Missing screws, incorrect hardware, oil in the wrong places, changed adjustments, bent parts, or pieces installed incorrectly can add another layer to the original problem.
If you have already attempted a repair or service, tell Mike what you did. If you have any parts that were removed from the camera, bring those with it.
And if you are only thinking about opening it, it is worth having Mike look at the camera first. A free estimate gives you a better idea of what you are dealing with before anything changes inside.
Tiny screws have been ending promising afternoons for a very long time.
No, and age is not always the reason.
Some vintage cameras are excellent repair candidates. Others have damage that has gone too far, parts that are no longer obtainable, or previous work that makes restoration impractical.
There are also cases where the necessary repair does not make economic or mechanical sense.
Mike will tell you what he sees and why he recommends—or does not recommend—moving forward.
If a camera is irreparable, we’ll tell you upfront.
There is no one-size-fits-all turnaround for vintage camera repair.
Camera Tech is a single-technician shop. Mike performs the evaluations and repair work himself, and timing depends on the repairs already on his bench, what your camera needs, and whether usable parts can be sourced.
Some jobs are relatively direct. A complicated mechanical problem or hard-to-find part can turn another repair into a much longer process. Certain cameras may be here for weeks or months before the work can be completed.
Mike will give you the best idea of timing he can when the camera is evaluated. If parts availability or something discovered during the repair changes that picture, the timeline can change with it.
If you have a specific deadline, tell him at the beginning. Better to know whether it is realistic before the camera stays.
